Boeing Vertol, in development of the LRV, was attempting to re-create the widespread use and success of the President's Conference Committee (PCC) cars of the previous generation. If things had gone as they wanted, the LRV would have been adopted by cities across the country to replace aging trolley fleets and create a new standard vehicle. In the end, the only systems that purchased and ran the LRVs were Boston's MBTA and San Francisco's MUNI.
